The Village at Summerville Retirement Community Breaks Ground on New Apartment Building

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (January 17, 2017) — Officials from Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC), Boyer Construction, and the Village at Summerville broke ground recently on an 18-unit apartment building that will attach to the main building at the retirement community.
Site work on the Summerville project, named Grand Oak Way, began last fall. The construction plot has been largely cleared and leveled, and it is expected that footings will be poured next week. The apartments will be available for new residents at the beginning of 2018.
“The apartment building will have one- and two-bedroom options ranging from 854 to 1,117 square feet,” said Jessa Carter, Sales Counselor. “We will offer a breadth of amenities, such as spacious, open kitchens, laundry rooms equipped with washers and dryers, and covered patios and decks. In addition, some of the apartments will have a lovely view of the pond.”
Grand Oak Way will also include a Bistro dining venue, which will provide another dining option for all active lifestyle residents at the community. This project is Boyer Construction’s fifth one with Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina; the construction firm also completed an apartment building and memory support center at a community in Easley, S.C. “We are delighted to be working with Boyer Construction again,” said Kathy Ligon, PCSC President and CEO.
“This is an exciting time for The Village at Summerville,” Ligon continued. “This is the first new major construction we have done at The Village of Summerville since we built the wellness center and indoor pool in 2005.”
The addition of Grand Oak Way increases the community’s active lifestyle accommodations to a total of 77 units. “PCSC is meeting a growing need for senior housing in the Summerville area while continuing to expand our mission and ministry,” Ligon said.
Individuals interested in Grand Oak Way can call Jessa Carter to be put on a waiting list. Depositors still have time to make custom selections if they make a commitment by the end of March, 2017.

The Village at Summerville, a Life Plan Retirement Community, sits on 84 acres of land designed with walking trails, a peaceful prayer garden, small ponds, fountains, and magnificent trees. Bungalow-style patio homes, brick cottages, apartments, and a wellness center line the streets of The Village. Gazebos and social areas are dotted throughout the campus where people enjoy bicycling, riding in golf carts, and walking pets or strolling the gardens with ease. Residents have the peace of mind knowing there are also healthcare options on site, including assisted living, home services, skilled nursing care, and short-term rehabilitation and post-acute care.

The Village at Summerville is one of five Life Plan Communities owned and managed by Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina, a not-for-profit organization affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Open to people of all faiths and with a legacy of serving older adults for more than 58 years, The Village at Summerville is established and continues to set standards in providing quality residency and health services for older adults. Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina’s mission is dedicated to enriching the quality of life for seniors of all faiths.
