About Our Mother’s Day Offering
Mother’s Day is a time we set aside to remember and thank the mothers who have given so much to us. Associated with Mother’s Day, South Carolina Presbyterians have a long tradition of generously supporting the PCSC Mother’s Day Offering. This offering has been a special way of remembering and caring for older adults since 1954. The monies received from the Mother’s Day Offering are used exclusively for those residents who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their financial resources and need assistance to remain in Presbyterian Communities.
Mother's Day 2025
Since 1954, Presbyterian churches in South Carolina have marked Mother’s Day with an offering to support the ministry of Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina to older adults.
PCSC Ambassadors are a treasured part of the PCSC family. Only with their support are we able to share the story of this ministry with so many church members and promote our Mother’s Day offering. PCSC is indeed grateful for all these volunteers who meet annually to provide feedback to the staff and learn about the new things happening in the organization.
Presbyterian Communities operates six retirement communities across the state that hundreds of seniors call “home.” Each location provides a full range of accommodations and services from independent and active living to healthcare and memory support.
Living at a Presbyterian Community, residents find everything they need to live life to its fullest. They are empowered to “grow old,” and not just “get old.”
Sustaining Residents
And yet, after years of living at their community, some will find their financial resources dwindling, perhaps due to a costly medical crisis or to extremely long life.
Thankfully, the Presbyterian churches who founded this ministry continue to sustain it, so that residents who have outlived their life’s savings can continue to call PCSC “home.” One way they do this is through the Mother’s Day Offering, which is used solely to provide charitable care for residents who can no longer pay for the full cost of their care. Along with the Offering, a special card featuring artwork by a resident is distributed in the churches. Please take a moment to enjoy the card at the right. This oil painting in the style of the impressionists depicts the grounds of the Old Sheldon Church Ruins in Yemassee, SC and was painted by Columbia Presbyterian Community resident, Don Murray.
Because the cost of charitable care can run to $1.5 million or more, it is truly a blessing that generous Presbyterian churches and their members help to shelter and care for each and every one of these through the Mother’s Day Offering.
Please give generously – thank you!
