Showing appreciation for essential staff

We owe a debt of gratitude to the essential staff at senior living communities. The work they do is vital — not only for our residents, but also for their families.

Every day, these heroes commit to providing comfort and care to senior living residents. They’re working tirelessly to ensure residents are able to participate in activities, safely visit with loved ones and enjoy their best lives.

If you’re looking for ways to show your appreciation to this dedicated and compassionate group of people, here are some ideas to thank essential staff throughout the year.
Extend kindness and concern. Post messages of thanks and support on social media, make signs, send thank you notes or cards.

Give much-needed supplies, as well as, consider other personal care items such as compression socks to ease tired legs, hand sanitizer, hand lotion and lip balm.

Drop off or deliver food. Homemade meals or baked goods, or food delivered from a local restaurant, are an unexpected treat. Just be sure to call ahead to make sure the community can accept your donation.

Lift spirits with care packages. Items like puzzles, board games, adult coloring books and colored pencils encourage rest and relaxation during off hours. Travel mugs with tea, instant coffee and hot cocoa packets, and flavored packets to mix with water are a great way to help staff stay hydrated and energized.

Run errands. Spending long hours away from their homes and families means that essential workers are often unable to tend to personal errands. Offer to pick up groceries, go to the cleaners or mail packages.

Send gift cards or subscriptions. Get creative with practical or self-care items such as spa boxes, wellness apps, as well as meal-delivery or streaming subscriptions.
