The Foothills Retirement Community is excited to welcome its new Chaplain, The Rev. Dr. Joseph Gaston. Joseph comes to the community after serving as Associate Pastor at John Knox Presbyterian Church in Greenville for over ten years. Being local to the area, he is already well-known and highly-regarded by many residents.
It was a clear sense of God’s calling that led to Joseph’s transition from parish ministry to chaplaincy in a senior living setting. It also dovetails neatly with his past, Joseph said.
“My family and I have found memories from the summer of 1988 when I served as the Seminary Intern Chaplain at The Village at Summerville. We were struck by the witness of Christ’s love, compassion and care that surrounded us, especially our two young children, Erin and Caleb. Now, in another season of my life and call, I am grateful to be serving as Chaplain at the Foothills Community with hopes of continuing such a witness.”
From his roots growing up on a farm, Joseph loves to be outside and have his hands in God’s creation. He graduated with a B. S. degree from Clemson University. He holds an M. Div. from Union Theological Seminary and a D. Min. from Louisville Theological Seminary.
“Joseph is a nurturer who has a gift for comforting God’s people and celebrating with us as good and faithful servants of Christ,” says Foothills Administrator Karen Nichols. “We are very excited about Joseph joining our team and what he will bring to our community.”
